Korea’s 1330 Travel Helpline is most useful when you can explain exactly what is stopping your trip from moving forward. “I need help getting to this entrance” is easier to resolve than “I am lost in Seoul.”
The Korea Tourism Organization operates 1330 for travel information, interpretation and tourist complaints through telephone and real-time chat services. KTO’s 1330 service guide
This article focuses on preparing a useful request. For a general navigation setup before travelling, start with our Korea travel apps guide.
Separate an information problem from a booking decision
Before contacting the service, identify what kind of answer you need.
| Situation | A clearer request |
|---|---|
| You cannot find an entrance | “Which entrance matches this address?” |
| Two places have similar names | “Can you help confirm the correct place?” |
| A Korean notice is unclear | “What does this notice say about today’s access?” |
| You need to explain a travel issue | “Can you help interpret this short exchange?” |
| You want a refund | “Which business or complaint channel should I contact?” |
The last example matters. Information and interpretation can help you understand the next step, but they do not guarantee a refund, a booking change or a business’s agreement.
Keep decisions such as accepting a new fare or cancellation condition with you. Ask for clarification before committing.
Prepare five details
You do not need a long story. A short note with these details will often be more useful:
- Your current location, ideally a named station, building or address.
- Your intended destination or the business involved.
- The relevant date and time.
- What you have already tried.
- The exact question you want answered.
For example:
“I am at the main entrance shown on this map, but there is a closure notice. I want to visit this museum today. Could you help me understand whether another entrance is open?”
This is a sample question, not a real incident. Its value is the structure: current position, intended action, obstacle and requested help.
Save the place name in Korean where possible. Two English spellings can refer to the same location, while similar-looking place names can refer to entirely different ones.
Choose a contact method your phone supports
KTO lists 1330 for calls within Korea and +82-2-1330 from abroad. Its current service page also provides online voice calling and a no-download 1330 Messenger chat option. Online calls are free on Wi-Fi; data charges may apply with another connection. Official contact instructions
A data-only travel eSIM is not the same thing as a Korean voice-calling plan. Before relying on a short number, check what your service actually includes. Our Korea eSIM guide explains the distinction.
Test that you can open the official service page while you have a reliable connection. Do not wait until your battery is nearly empty to discover which contact route is available.
The official page also links to KakaoTalk, Facebook, Line and WhatsApp options. Start from that page rather than an unverified account found through a general search. If your preferred channel is unavailable, try the official no-download chat route. 1330 official call and chat options
Keep booking evidence organised
If the problem involves a reservation, have the confirmation available. Note the provider name, booking date, booked service and reference number.
Share only what is necessary for the question. A full payment-card number or account password should not be needed to explain an ordinary travel problem. If someone directs you to a payment or login page, verify that it belongs to the relevant provider before entering anything.
Keep screenshots of the notice or error you are asking about, but avoid including unrelated private information.
Use the result as a next-step checklist
Before ending the conversation, repeat the action you understood:
- Which place or organisation should you contact?
- What information should you provide?
- Is there a time limit?
- Are you being told a confirmed fact or given an option to verify?
This reduces the chance of leaving with a helpful explanation but no clear action.
If the answer changes your route, update the destination in your map app immediately rather than trying to remember it while walking.
Know when ordinary travel advice is not enough
Do not use a tourism-information conversation as a substitute for urgent emergency assistance. An immediate danger calls for the appropriate emergency response rather than routine itinerary troubleshooting. Keep the official 1330 page for ordinary travel information, interpretation and tourist complaints.
For everyday travel friction, the best preparation is simple: save the official contact route, keep your location clear and ask one specific question at a time.
