BTS · Busan · From the archive
In October 2022, a BTS concert gave fans a reason to move through Busan together. The stadium was the focal point, but the surrounding program stretched into shopping, exhibitions, public screenings and landmark lighting. That wider city experience is the story of BTS Yet To Come THE CITY in Busan.
This article covers the temporary 2022 edition. The locations can help you understand that moment, while a trip today needs current visitor information.
How a concert became a citywide visit
THE CITY gave fans activities beyond the seat they held at a concert. HYBE’s 2022 program listed merchandise retail, entertainment, an exhibition and themed accommodation products. The appeal was geographical as well as musical: fans could build a visit around several parts of Busan. Official 2022 program
Busan has a personal connection for fans through Jimin and Jung Kook, who are from the city. Visit Busan acknowledges that background in its official fan-travel coverage. This guide keeps the connection at that public level; childhood institutions, private addresses and personal schedules are not part of the route. Visit Busan’s BTS context
The official program, in context
Some of the documented 2022 highlights were:
- A merchandise store at Lotte Department Store’s Busan Main Store and booths associated with the stadium and LIVE PLAY
- The 2022 BTS Exhibition: Proof at LCT, scheduled from 5 October to 8 November
- A themed program and afterparties at Lotte World Adventure Busan during the October event period
- A pre-gathering event and time-limited themed hotel packages
These are historical program entries, not a list of attractions you can book under the same terms now. Even if a building or business still operates, that does not extend an old event, package or ticket.
Weverse also ran an Emblem Rally from 11 to 15 October 2022. Its digital missions and collection element help explain why fan photographs from that week show people visiting multiple locations. It was a dated participation event, not a permanent city trail. 2022 rally notice
LIVE PLAY brought the performance beyond the stadium
Busan City’s event record identifies LIVE PLAY at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal’s outdoor parking area and a Haeundae special stage. These were screenings of the concert on large screens. They should not be confused with separate BTS performances at the beach or port. City concert and LIVE PLAY record
That distinction is especially useful when you see a cropped image without its original caption. A crowd watching a screen can document a real official fan experience without proving that the artists appeared at that particular location.
Why the city looked purple
The municipal Borahae Busan announcement described purple lighting at landmarks including Gwangan Bridge, Busan Tower and Busan Cinema Center, with the campaign running until 17 October 2022. It also announced a Gwangalli drone show for the concert night. Busan City’s dated lighting announcement
The lighting is part of the historical record. It does not promise a purple skyline every evening. Treat an old photograph as a dated memory, and check a fresh official schedule before making plans around any later display.
You can make your own fan photograph with an accessory or a color you enjoy. Keep props small enough not to block another person’s view or the walking route. A public landmark does not need to reproduce its 2022 appearance to be worth seeing.
Turn the history into a present-day trip
Asiad: a documented concert venue
If the stadium connection matters most, begin with our Asiad guide. Confirm access first and be prepared for an exterior-focused visit. The venue is a working sports complex; an old concert ticket or event map gives no access rights now.
Seomyeon: understand the shopping chapter
The historical merchandise store gives Seomyeon a specific role in the 2022 program. Visit the neighborhood for what interests you today, rather than expecting the original shop to remain. Its location in the old program is useful context, not a claim of ongoing official merchandise sales.
Haeundae: allow a coastal day
Haeundae links several strands of the archive, including the public screening and exhibition area. For a present visit, the beach district can also simply be a place for a walk and a meal. Check any indoor destination independently; a past exhibition does not imply current admission to the same space.
Gwangalli: keep the view, check the program
The official tourism guide recommends Gwangalli’s beachfront and bridge view after dark. Choose it for that public coastal setting, then verify any special show separately. A normal evening view and a BTS-themed event are different reasons to go. Current Gwangalli visitor information
Add ordinary Busan to the fan route
For more of Busan, consider a separate day around Nampo and its markets, or look into Gamcheon Culture Village if its art-filled streets interest you. Check access and respect residents. These wider cultural choices should not automatically be labeled official BTS sites.
Use our two-day itinerary for a simpler structure. If you want to extend it into another district, first check the specific attraction’s current visitor details and leave enough time to enjoy it. A list of names is not yet a workable route.
At markets and cafés, read the menu or ask about what you are ordering rather than treating a dish as compulsory fan travel. Busan’s food and neighborhoods are worth your attention on their own terms.
How to read the next event announcement
Look for the year, organizer, exact program name, venue and operating dates. Then check whether it needs a reservation, a separate ticket or a particular entry process. An official notice verifies only what it actually announces; a social-media post from another year cannot fill in missing details.
The separate 2026 ARIRANG program is a good example of why this matters. Similar branding returned with different locations and activities. Neither edition supplies automatic instructions for a future one.
A good fan visit leaves space for other people
Stay with public attractions and businesses that welcome visitors. Do not look for private homes, lodging or real-time artist movements. At a former event site, avoid disrupting reception desks or staff with requests to access areas that were used only for the event.
Keep entrances clear, take litter with you and ask before photographing people closely. The lasting part of THE CITY is the connection between music and a real city. Respecting that city is part of making the next visit worthwhile.
